Should I eat this soft cheese?

Unopened package of Boursin cranberry & pepper fresh soft cheese, best before date May 11th, found at the back of the fridge. Looks/smells OK. Made from pasteurized milk. Eat or toss?

Best answer: I’d eat it! Only if it was opened or looked/smelled strange would I toss it. Or if I knew my fridge had been left open for an extended period of time.

Best answer: Sorry, may have been a little enthusiastic. Here are they keys to me: Unopened, pasteurized and cheese. Unpasteurized, I might be leery (but still eat), but the other two? Eat.

Best answer: trust your nose

I lived in a dodgy flat where there was a fridge with a block of cheese that was in there so long it grew a thick green coating of mold. one day we sliced it all off and ate the cheese, it was delicious.

Best answer: Always eat the cheese.
(Unless it's obviously grody)

Response by poster: Thank you all, I will go eat the cheese now. I should have known the answer is always eat the cheese!

Best answer: Wash it down with lots of wine, if you are nervous about it. Cheese lasts, especially unopened, pasteurized cheese. I sometimes buy a block of Dubliner, and just let it sit in my fridge for a month, so I know I have it.

I love it when the answer is "eat the tasty cheese and enjoy" like it is here.
