boot me up

I'm looking for the ultimate in multi-purpose sexy awesome boots!!

I don't know if such a thing exists, but I'm looking for the perfect boot: long-lasting, comfortable as heck, good for walking around the city for hours, and sleek enough to wear with a skirt for some punky clubbing. People are telling me to go Doc Marten...what do you think?

I want these for everyday wear in Vancouver, and also as my only pair of shoes when I venture around England this May.

I swear by my Sudini boots -- I've had them for a couple of years, they're super-comfortable (I wore them most of the time I was walking around London for a week a few months ago), hold up very well (I've had to re-heel them all of once in all this time), and go as well with jeans as with skirts (though since my punky clubbing days are over, i don't know how well they'd go there, style-wise. You kids and your "club scene" these days!).

Doc Martens seem to last forever. I'm my second pair in five years, and have only just recently broken in that second pair. No joke.

I can't say what they're like now that manufacturing has moved from the UK to China, though.

The Manolo may have some good advice.

The pair of knee-high black stretch Aerosoles I bought at Dillards back in October fit the bill as far as wearing all the time goes - since I haven't had 'em for that long, though, I can't say how they'd hold up in the future.

Docs are great. Last forever. Just be sure to get some good insoles-you'll be a lot more comfortable and your feet will stay warmer.
You also might investigate fluevogs -well made, but pricy. The most comfortable boots I own are my New Rocks, but I'm not sure if they make anything particularly "sleek". Also very costly, and very well made.

Have you looked on www.zappos.com? You can search by brand and check out the above suggestions.

I'll second the New Rocks; I've got a pair of big stompy ones, and they're great.
They definitely do some uber-sexy girly boots (from thick soles right up to tiny pointy metal spike heels) in a wide range of colours and finishes... but as mentioned, they're pretty darn expensive - but yes, they last well!

I'd imagine that they'd go really well with "punky clubbing"... unless that's something akin to "seal clubbing"? ;-)

I've loved and worn Docs since I was about 18 and seen them swing in and out of fashion at least three times - if that consideration even matters to you. But they seem to be a "love 'em or hate 'em" style. They're certainly comfortable once the leather gets broken in.

Hmm... and I'd have to say that they fall down on the "sexy" criterion, but I guess that's a matter of opinion.

I had some Doc Martens that lasted approximately 2 months before the sole wore through, just to give an alternate spin on the pro-Doc POV. They were properly comfy for the last month before they wore out though. I'd recommend 8/10 hole Docs as the best all-round size for comfort if you do go that route.

If you want giant clumpy hoo-haa boots then New Rocks are good - although it shouts "I am a goth/rivethead" to most people - they do also sell some slightly less ostentatious boots and they would probably do better with jeans or skirts.

Found these docs on overstock. Never ordered from this place, but that price is entirely reasonable for experimenting with boots.

*hugs you all*

Thanks muchly. I'm going to head down to fluevogs this week, and look around, and might pick up those docs at overstock--the New Rock shoes are pretty freakin' cool as well, although I might have to change my entire personality to suit them *grins*. Anyway, thanks for all the great advice!
