Pokemon Go: what is this Seel/Dewgong hybrid evolution?

A few weeks ago I evolved a Seel (#86), without knowing what it would become. It ended up evolving into a new Pokemom (#87) but had the exact same name. Today I hatched a new Pokemom called a Dewgong, which looks just like the evolved Seel and is also #87. I can't find any evidence of this Seel->Seel hybrid. What's the deal with the second Seel?

I searched Google, google images, and various wikis but couldn't find anything. This Imgur album with photos of Pokedex, list of Pokemon on hand showing all three versions, and stats, etc should help everything make sense.

Best answer: Had you accidentally nicknamed the first one "Seel"? Pokémon's nicknames don't change when they evolve. There is no such thing as a hybrid -- Seels always evolve into Dewgongs.

(I think it will sometimes believe you have nicknamed the Pokémon its original name even if you only click into the renaming field and then press OK.)

Best answer: If you go to edit the name, delete it all, then click OK it defaults to the actual Pokémon name.

Response by poster: jeudi: I don't rename them, but I have a fuzzy recollection of accidentally clearing a name and quickly "fixing it"

EndsOfInvention: Yup, that proved the theory
