Question: How to get embedded pics in a webbased email

Is there a way I can send a picture in the body of an email if I use Hotmail? I'm responsible for sending out an email announcement and they want me to use the group's logo plus a picture of our guest. When I tried it all I got was the annoying red x box. Am I up the creek?

Probably. What I would try is adding the hotmail account to outlook express, that should do it.

I don't have Outlook Express.

Is it safe to assume I would have the same difficulty with any webbased email, such as Gmail?

I don't see any interface options to add inline images in gmail either. Not sure about yahoo and others.

I get imbedded images sent TO both my hotmail and gmail accounts. Apparently I cannot return the favor.

I sent my stuff in a separate file but if anyone else has any suggestions I am all ears. This won't be the last time I will have to do this email newsletter.

you'd need to host the image on the web somewhere, then code a img src=http://{full internet path to the image} tag.

Actually, I'd guess that it probably depends on the account type that's receiving the e-mail. Probably, you're screwed.

You could always send a link to the image, hosted online, I suppose.

When you hit Attach in Hotmail you have an option to attach Pictures, which when selected will link you to a download for the MSN Photo Upload Tool - maybe that'd work? I don't know personally though because I'm always loathe to install extraneous MS crap that's a copy of some much better software but bloated to hell. Still love Hotmail though :-)

Just FYI: Many people/mail clients automatically strip out inlined images that are hosted on a remote website as Matt suggests doing. It's possible to directly embed images into email (which is sometimes also stripped out), but I've never seen a method for creating original mails thusly using Yahoo or Gmail, which I think is what you're really asking.
