Holiday pay after old contract and before new one (Ontario)?

I am in Ontario, Canada. My employer gives us Good Friday and Easter Monday off. My old contract ends on Good Friday and my new contract begins on Tuesday (the day after Easter Monday). Does this mean that technically I am not employed on Easter Monday and not entitled to be paid for that day?

Probaby, yes. If it is with the same company you should ask them about the possibility of covering Monday as well.

Response by poster: It's with the same employer. Actually, it's a government funded agency.

You have to be employed the day before and the day after in Ontario.

Mikek is correct. You are unlikely to be paid for that day.

Response by poster: Thanks for the feedback, folks. I enquired with HR, and was advised that I would not be paid for Easter Monday. The first and last rule doesn't apply, I was advised. I agitated to have my contract changed so that my effective start date is Easter Monday - even though I don't report for work again until Tuesday. It worked.
