Toronto walking tours of the specific or interesting

I'll be visiting Toronto next month with my partner and would love to find some interesting walking tours. We're not interested in a general intro tour of the entire city, but instead, tours focusing on a particular area or subject.

I love learning about places I visit through someone else pointing things out to me, and it's relaxing to walk and follow for a few hours instead of working from maps and our own research.

My favourite walking tours are very specific to an area or subject, even if the subject or areas isn't something I know much about - I learn a lot and feel it's much more engaging than trying to get an overview, especially since I am reading that myself. History, architecture, art, engineering, nature, transportation, etc - any subject is potentially good.

We've both been to Toronto before, have no mobility restrictions, and are English speakers. Our list of places to visit otherwise cover comics, museums, sewing, fitness, history, art, and food. I've studied architecture and am probably pickiest on architecture generalisations.

Here's what we've found:
Heritage Toronto Tours
Toronto Society of Architects

Can you suggest any tours that are the opposite of a two-hour citywide bus tour? Thank you!

Best answer: I really enjoyed the Heritage Toronto Tours I've done -- and I live in the city.

Jane's Walk 2017, inspired by Jane Jacobs, is on May 5, 6, and 7. Do those dates line up with your visit?

Jane's Walk
Led by citizens. On preview, jinx with TORunner. There are lots of smaller walks other than the May 5-7 event on other days.

Tour Guys walking tours are really fun- I took a great one where we learned about graffiti and how Toronto's neighborhoods were formed. It was informative, casual, and good for all ages. The tours are "free" as the guides are paid by tip.

A tour with Marta O'Brien may fit the bill. She's taught architectural history at the University of Toronto.

Response by poster: Thank you all so much, this is great! Unfortunately, we'll be arriving just after Jane's Day but I'll watch the schedule in case any later ones get added.
