Can you help me find a cake decorating book with lots of colorful, unpretentious decorating ideas that I read about a decade ago?

I remember that the book was written by people who owned a bakery, or maybe a cake business (that sure narrows it down, huh). I want to say it was written by a couple. I believe it was named after the bakery. I think I read it around 2007-2008 and I believe I found out about it from some blog, so I'd guess it was published shortly before that.

Many (most?) of the ideas in the book were pretty fun and colorful affairs, but it wasn't a children's book nor was it specifically cakes geared for children. It definitely had at least one section on fancier cakes and (I think) even a wedding cake idea. It had many ideas for using a chocolate-on-waxed paper-style decorating (like this), moreso than traditional piped frosting decorations. Very unpretentious and accessible book - not for professionals or experienced decorators. I believe that at least one cake in the book had a colorful butterfly design - possibly the one on the cover?

I know it's a long shot, but if this rings any bells for anyone, you'd be my hero!

Hummingbird Bakery or Magnolia Bakery?

Response by poster: Sorry, I should have clarified better - while I'm sure the book contained recipes, it was really more of a decorating-ideas-and-techniques-focused book than a cookbook. While both of those books look lovely, unfortunately, I think I'm thinking of something else!

Disclaimer that none of the following quite fit all your criteria, but it may spark your memory a bit more and apparently there are an absurd amount of cake decorating books in existence.

Cakeology?

Cake Decorating with the Kids?

Cake My Day?

Cake Decorating Made Easy?

The Contemporary Buttercream Bible?

Maybe one of these by Kate Sullivan? (They seem to be variations of the same book.) Kate's Cake Decorating (2004); Fun & Fancy Cake Decorating (2006).

Possibly The Cake Decorator's Bible?

Best answer: The Whimsical Bakehouse: Fun-to-Make Cakes That Taste as Good as They Look
by Kaye and Liv Hansen?

2002, but fits your other criteria. I'm mentioning it mostly because you mention finding it through a blog. As did I, through TheTipsy Baker who was cooking from it in 2008.

Response by poster: Diomedea, that's it! You're a mind-reader, that's amazing.

Thanks to all - I'm definitely going to be checking out some of those others, as well.
