BonanzaFilter (With a side of minor prophets)

This is a long shot, but I have seen miracles here before. There was an episode of Bonanza, where Ben and some other people are doing something difficult (maybe travelling, or hauling logs, or shooting guns). One of the people doing this with him is named [minor prophet]. Ben turns to him in exasperation and says: "Why did your parents name you [minor prophet]? They should have named you Jeremiah!" Can anyone identify the prophet referenced, and what does Ben mean by this?

Jeremiah the prophet was kinda complainy; maybe the character was whining at Ben too much?

Is it Jedediah Milbank from the episode entitled Springtime?

Best answer: Did a quick google for "bonanza jeremiah ben" and hit this IMDB character quotes page, which includes:

"Bonanza: The Trail Gang (#2.11)" (1960)
Ben Cartwright: Hallelujah, will you tell me one thing? Why did your folks name you Hallelujah instead of Jeremiah?

So that might get you started...

Scene at 12:10 or so.

The joke is that Hallelujah is an expression of joy, but this guy is a jerk and downer, which is more in keeping with Jeremiah, whose prophecy largely involved telling the Israelites that they were awful and would be deservedly destroyed for not living up to their religious obligations.

Jeremiah is traditionally considered the author of Book of Lamentations, which would fit with the complainy idea.

Response by poster: Thanks all! 22 minutes to track it down, 44 minutes to have it all explained and wrapped in a bow. Miracles abound!
