Best way to travel from Brampton to Toronto?

My partner is working in Brampton, Ontario next week. He needs to plan how to best travel to Toronto from there. Is there an easy way to do this on public transportation? Or is Uber or taxi his best bet? Any advice would be appteciated.

Apparently it's Toronto travel advice day on mefi. The previous question reminded me I've been meaning to ask this question. Thanks!

Best as in least annoying? Probably GO bus to/from Union with Uber or taxi on the Brampton end. A taxi from one end to the other, both ways, for the whole week, would be a little pricey, imo.

From where in Brampton to where in Toronto and at what time of day?

Google Maps does reasonably well for this sort of thing. You can customize it to the time of day and location.

Best answer: I work in Toronto and have friends in Brampton. Pls feel free to reach out by MeMail about specific locations and times.

Best answer: GO train for sure. (Taxi is about $100 one way)

I agree knowing intersections would be helpful for specific advice. Brampton transit buses are pretty good

Response by poster: I'm afraid he doesn't know exactly where in Toronto he's going. He was having trouble determining if there is a train or not, so this will help. Thanks!

Can he rent a car? Because that is best by a mile. GO Train/Bus is second.

Best answer: The Train to/from Brampton stops twice in Toronto, downtown at Union (where lines Yonge & University of the subway pass through) and at Bloor near Dundas (short walk to Bloor Subway line). It stops in four stations that co-ordinate with Brampton Transit buses; Malton, Bramalea, Brampton Downtown, & Mount Pleasant that roughly go south-east to north-west through the city.

GO Transits website in an abomination of poor user design. The line he is looking for is the Kitchener line.

This is the GO schedule (green shaded rows means trains, the others are buses) The Brampton a transit map is at the bottom of this page.

A car is better time-wise, if your partner is comfortable dealing with GTA highways (and the aggressive drivers on them, who are a majority) during rush hour (which is, seems like, most of the day, barring 11-2), and has a good grip on TO's one-way streets, and its parking scenario. (If parking on the street - he must attend to signs. All the signs he can see, because some of them will contradict each other, and the tow truck people are fast. Parking in a private lot overnight would be better, imo. But then you're down the rental, parking, and gas... I'd stick to transit.) Might be worth talking to someone at work to see if a carsharing situation could be arranged. Otherwise, still think the best thing is GO transit + [TTC once in Toronto, and I guess Brampton's transit system, or Uber/cab on that side].

(If using Google Maps, also check GO and TTC websites for diversions, delays, etc. in case your route's affected. Google Maps sometimes doesn't update correctly with these, and it sometimes doesn't give reasonable time estimations for walking around connection points [e.g. Union].)

Brampton Transit has a bus that goes to Finch Station so if he is in the north part of Toronto that could work too. There may be buses that go to other TTC stations as well, and the schedules may be more regular than the GO train.

Response by poster: Thanks for all the travel tips! He discovered there's a GO train stop near his hotel and used that.
