What is an appropriate thank you gift for a personal trainer?

My trainer for the last year and a bit is moving to a new job. What should I get him?

Right now the best I can come up with is something like a Starbucks or Amazon gift card. If that's the way I go is there some rule of thumb for the amount like the cost of a training session (or some multiple of one)?

For anyone else I'd get some sweets but that doesn't seem like a very good idea for a personal trainer.

If he's outdoorsy: REI or Sierra Trading Post gift card?

A gift card to Whole Foods.

Alternatively, post positive reviews of his work at various websites, and offer to be a reference for him in case a prospective client wants to contact references. I'm saying this assuming his new job will involve some kind of rainmaking, and references help with that.

Most of the super-fit trainers I know actually have a sweet tooth and like to have a 'cheat day', so I wouldn't be afraid to go for traditional chocolates/cake type of gift. Maybe the chocs plus the gift card.

Adding to zdravo's suggestion: Write him a detailed thank you letter and include something like "Please feel free to share this with any future prospective clients or employers."
