I'm gonna play the doom album now

Please recommend me your favourite recent-ish metal albums in the following categories: (1) stoner doom; (2) psychedelic black metal; (3) psychedelic doom/sludge/desert rock. Examples inside.

Stoner doom
Elder, Dead Roots Stirring (2011) [NSFW cover art] and Lore (2015).
Groove-based stoner metal with doom riffs and an "epic" feel, essentially.

Psychedelic black metal
A Forest of Stars, Beware the Sword You Cannot See (2015).
So: black metal, combined with '70s-style psych rock and traditional English folk vocal harmonies and instrumentation. I cannot get enough of this album, but I haven't found anything that sounds much like it. What else is out there in this genre that I might like, based on this album? Note: I generally can't abide folk metal, but am willing to listen to it if it's essentially the exact opposite of, say, Arkona.

Psychedelic doom/sludge/desert rock
SubRosa, More Constant than the Gods (2013).
Solar Halos, Solar Halos (2014).
Alright: I'm resigned to there being nothing out there that sounds quite like post-2011 SubRosa, but I'd be interested in hearing stuff with a similar combination of styles and influences.

I'm very much looking for albums that are consistently strong throughout and that I can immerse myself in completely. Thanks!

Best answer: I don't know where in your genre breakdown Bongripper falls but Satan Worshipping Doom is a classic as is Electric Wizard's Dopethrone.

I have no recommendations but thanks to this post I now know about SubRosa and my life is better as a result.

I think I always recommend The Warlocks for questions like this, and I'm going to do it again, for the psychedelic/sludge category. Their last album was Skull Worship, which I feel reaches peak doominess in the song that starts at around 29 minutes. A previous album, Heavy Deavy Skull Lover, might be more doomy, what with track titles like "Death, I Hear You Walking" and "Slip Beneath".

I love The Black Angels. It's not exactly metal, but it's undoubtedly stoner/psychedelic/heavy. If I ever find myself armed with only a baseball bat and a shotgun making my last stand in a desert cabin against a horde of zombies , that's who I want as my soundtrack.

Best answer: 1) Khemmis, both of their albums

2) Nachtmystium

3) Celestial Season - Lunchbox Dialogues

Got plenty more

Response by poster: Thanks everyone. I do know about and enjoy most of these bands, but it's always great to be reminded. I will happily check out Black Mountain, Khemmis, and Celestial Season.

In case anyone's interested, some guy from Nebraska runs two excellent YouTube channels showcasing full albums and EPs in this genre: Stoned Meadow of Doom and the imaginatively named Stoned Meadow of Doom 2. Countless hours of listening; highly recommended.

Best answer: More suggestions (a few of these you might have familiarity with):

1. Atlantean Kodex - The White Goddess
Pagan Altar (not THAT groovy, but good)
Reverend Bizarre (not that stoner, but look at those track lengths, easy to get lost in those wonderful albums)
Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Blood Lust
Ancestors

2. Hail Spirit Noir
Howls of Ebb
Negative Plane
Negura Bunget - Om
Njiqahdda - Yrg Alms
Oranssi Pazuzu
Todtgelichter - Angst
Murmur - Murmur (not quite in line with AFOS, but their cover of King Crimson's Larks' Tongue in Aspic is sharp)
Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape
Entropia - Vesper (not that psychedelic)
Fleurety - Min Tid Skal Komme (Avant-Garde BM)
The Great Old Ones (Atmospheric, not Psych)
Krallice (fringe pick, not psych but heavy on sonicscapes)
Ludicra

3. Colour Haze
Karma to Burn
Acid Bath
Sahg - Sahg I
Spiritual Beggars - Ad Astra & Demons
Watchtower - Radiant Moon (just an EP but I find it neat)
The Atlas Moth - An Ache for the Distance
Bast - Spectres
Blindead - Affliction XXIX II MXMVI (not that stoner, but atmospheric)
Brothers of the Sonic Cloth - s/t
Cult of Luna (not stoner, but the jam)
Giant Squid - Metridium Fields
Inter Arma (not stoner)
Ufomammut - Snailking & Idolum
Year of No Light

If you still need more, send me a DM. Enjoy!!
