what is the best way to get from phoenix to tucson, AZ? i'll be flying to phoenix in february. i need to get to tucson. is there a bus i can take from the airport in phoenix to tucson? is greyhound any where near the airport? maybe i should just rent a car? other alternatives?

I used to live in Tucson and traveled between Tucson and Phoenix often. Renting a car would be the most convenient. Otherwise you're stuck with Greyhound.

I've found that renting a car from PHX is one of the cheapest places in the country to rent a car. On off-days and weekends you can get a car for under $10/day. Price them out at carrentals.com.

Arizona Shuttle goes from Sky Harbor to several spots in Tucson. It's reasonably cheap and runs pretty often.

Depending on your needs, though, renting a car might be the best option - it's only 99 miles to Tucson and public transportation in that part of the country is mostly a rumor.

Keep an eye on the Phoenix craigslist rideshare board. I second carrrentals.com. If you want to give Priceline a try, you can check biddingfortravel.com where people report the bids they've been able to get accepted there. When I had to go from Phoenix to Tucson, I just gave a pal of mine gas money to drive me down, it's sort of a neat ride if you take the back way.

I seem to remember that renting a car from the rental places at Sky Harbor Airport meant you were paying an extra $[outrageous number here] for [absolutely no reason here]. This extra fee may have been eliminated.

That's the AZ Shuttle, though I'm not sure it's still 20 bucks. That was years ago.
