What is this cat's name?
October 9, 2016 12:48 PM   Subscribe

We need a name for this cat! He's gorgeous: completely black, green-eyed, sleek & lithe like a panther. His brother is a tuxedo cat named Sam. What do we call this one?

His brother Sam is definitely a Sam, but the all-black cat's shelter name doesn't really suit him. We need your help to figure out what his name really is.

He's absolutely silent when he moves -- he darts and leaps and you don't even notice -- but he has a glorious voice and isn't shy about singing. Most of the time, though, he is regally aloof. What should we call him?

Best answer: Stealth.
(What gorgeous cats! Shelter/rescue pets are the best. Congratulations on your new family members!)

Best answer: Silent when he moves, like a ghost, or a phantom? Has a glorious singing voice?

Well, his name is Erik, then.

Seconding Puck. My sleek black cat's full name was Pad Puck Bung for his love of food; when he was a young rescue with a shaved skinny neck from a bott fly larva removal, he was also called The Ugly Puckling. But he grew up to be incredibly handsome, loving and strong.

And congratulations on your new addition. He's gorgeous!

Best answer: oh, my goodness, he is beautiful. I like Shadow and Phantom (because he's nearly invisible and because of the opera-singing thing, right?) Or Jett!

Neo. I have always wanted a sleek black cat named Neo, but my spouse has a weird prejudice against male cats so I probably won't ever have one.

Response by poster: So many awesome suggestions!

I've marked as best all the ones that floated to the top of our list. After much deliberation & name-calling, we finally went with another name in the same vein as some of the above....

Everyone, meet Sly.

(Also, this thread just proves that I need moar cats.)
