Max, my two-year-old loves Where the Wild Things Are because the kid in the book is named Max, too. Please suggest other kids’ books with Maxes in ‘em.
Max & Ruby are wonderful Rosemary Wells characters. There are charming books and a TV series.

This book is three of a series of four about an aspiring poet who wears a trenchcoat and scarf and dreams of moving to Paris. Also he's a dog. "Max the dog, the poet, the dreamer".
I only know about it because when I was still living states apart from my fiancé, I developed the habit of trawling the children's book section of Barnes and Noble, looking for adorable soft character toys to send him. We still have Max because he was such a standout and came with a little note in his pocket. I have never read any of his books.

Petropolis' main character (a dog) is named Max, whose doggie door brings him to Petropolis, where the pets wear clothes, watch movies, and go to art museums.

Max at Night. I just read this to my three-year-old tonight (he is not called Max) and we both love it. I must have read it fifty times and am still not bored with it, which for me is a good accolade for a children's book.

The protagonist (the main human one, anyway) of The Forbidden Forest is named Spider Max.

I love David Wiesner and I love Art and Max. Beautiful and funny at the same time, and if you two like it, there's lots more Wiesner stuff out there to enjoy.

Barbro Lindgren has a whole series of board books with Max as protagonist. (Some of them seem to be translated using Sam instead, but the original Swedish ones are Max books and there are at least some in English on Amazon. )
