Twitter opening Safari?

Why does the Twitter app on my iPhone open retweets in Safari?

I'm pretty sure it just started doing this a few days ago and this morning I updated the Twitter app to ensure it wasn't an outdated version. The app opens web links included in a tweet within the Twitter app browser but if a tweet in my feed includes a retweet, the retweet gets opened in mobile.twitter.com on Safari.

This is almost certainly due to some recent changes in their API (short version: the maximum tweet length changed in some circumstances). I've been noticing some similarly funny behavior in Tweetbot, but you'd think Twitter would update their own app.

I've noticed this on my Android phone. It seems to happen with tweets that exceed the character limit. Annoying.

Best answer: Well, whatever it was , it seems they fixed it since it stopped happening.
