LibreOffice5 Regrets

Just upgraded from an earlier version, my fonts are suddenly inaccessible???

Windows PC

I was using an earlier version of LibreOffice and everything was fine. The font select list in the format menu was working normally, with an actual preview of the font in the menu list itself, just like old versions of Word and exactly as I liked it.

"Upgraded" to LibreOffice5 a couple of days ago, it seems to have some big new bug / issue with fonts.

In the drop down menu all of my standard windows fonts are listed, but their styles are not displayed.

When I select most fonts, the doc does not display them. For example I select "Century Gothic" and instead I get some shitty looking serif default font.

Even opening old documents it seems the proper fonts are not being pulled up, instead being replaced with a very limited subset of my locally available fonts. It is fucking up design and formatting of all my previous work and is a dealbreaker.

Can this be fixed? How to make LibreOffice properly use all of the fonts in my windows/fonts folder?

Are these fonts installed as system fonts? Do they work in other applications? OpenOffice (and possibly LibreOffice too) used to have its own font management. That meant you could install fonts just for OpenOffice that wouldn't show up as system fonts.

LibreOffice 5 looks like it uses system fonts exclusively. Are the fonts being embedded if you export as PDF?
