Size does matter........in Gmail that is!

I am transitioning from Comcast to Gmail during a house move. Is there a way to increase the size and bold the gmail font? (OLD EYES)!

in your web browser? try ctrl + (hold down ctrl and press + which might involve shift). ctrl 0 (zero) to reset.

Or, if you're on a Mac it'll be: command shift +

Try Gmail settings. There's an option to change what gets displayed and the sizes of some of the elements (compact cozy something something).

This doesn't change the font size, just the space around the words.

Click the gear in the upper right ->settings ->general (the default page that opens). 6th option down is Default Text Style. If you click TT there are options for small, normal, large, and huge.

Correction: that only changes the emails you type, not the things you get or the site text.

Do you use chrome or firefox? there are extensions for this. For chrome: 1 2 3 firefox: 1 2 But there are many others.

For improved readability, you may also want to experiment with switching to a higher contrast theme (e.g., white text on a black background). You can do this by going to Settings (the gear in the upper right corner) then clicking on themes.

Yes, hold down Command/Control and hit the Plus key. This will increase the text size, and you can use it across the web. It's a great keyboard shortcut to know and use. Command/Control and the Minus key will decrease font size.

On Firefox, you can also find this under the View menu. I believe that on some browsers, you may even be able to right-click on a page, and find the Zoom level.

Holding down the Ctrl key while you spin the mouse wheel changes zoom level as well.

Best zoom extension I've seen is NoSquint, now abandoned but forked as NoSquint Plus for both Firefox and Chrome. The main advantage over the zoom support already built into the browsers is that NoSquint remembers your zoom settings per site. You get an extra UI button that lets you set assorted things but you usually don't have to use it; the existing zoom controls continue to work, but they're just applied per-site instead of globally.

Quite a lot of web sites whose designers have been infected by the everything-is-a-phone brain worms improve greatly when overall zoomed to something like 50% with text zoom at 150%.

NoSquint can also force text and background colors per site, though that's less useful than it could be for Gmail which makes fairly heavy use of altering the background colors of assorted UI elements to let you know you've selected stuff or done things.
