Archive.org - first time contributor looking for guidance

I recently found a collection of MP4 video interviews on a specific subject sitting on a university website that appears to be unique (only lives there, so far as I can tell). The content is noteworthy and important enough that I would like to create a brand new collection on the Internet Archive. Ownership/rights info is unclear at this stage but I'm drafting an email to the video/web page creator. This would be my first time actually adding content to IA and I'm looking for a little MeFi guidance.

The interviews are publicly available and are provided as:

(1) a bunch of jQuery widgets that play edited clips cut from a master MP4 and
(2) a full rar download at the bottom of the page containing a gigantic, unedited master MP4.

As far as I can tell, there is zero information about rights/ownership anywhere on the web page or in the video files.

Mainly I just want to get these videos into IA. Even if all that happens that I inspire the creator to do this and it's not me doing anything further, that's fine. I just want this stuff preserved.

But I'd love to be able to get permission to do it all myself. It would be interesting and fun to create a collection that not only puts a friendly face on the content but also provides important related/peripheral info about it, as many great collections on the Internet Archive do. And this is an area where I have some skill/passion and where I think the content creator owner may benefit from having me take care of it.

I've read IA's Uploading Content FAQ answer which essentially says, "hey, if it's public domain or you own the rights to it, go for it." What else should I be reading up on? Are they saying that if I obtain written (email) permission from the content creator/owner, that I can, indeed, simply go for it?
