Question: Del.icio.us settings for a daily feed to a Blogger blog

What settings should I use to create a del.icio.us 'thingy' to feed daily links to my Blogger blog?

Here are the current settings I'm trying.

job_name [a random word]
out_name [my Blogger user ID]
out_pass [my Blogger password]
out_url [http://myblogid.blogspot.com/]
out_time [5]
out_blog_id [my 7-digit Blogger ID number]
out_cat_id [1]

Is it that 'out_url' setting that's wrong? There's no documentation for these thingies yet, and settings gleaned from ask.mefi and Google-produced websites haven't helped.

After hitting the same wall you did, I turned to Feeddigest's del.icio.us syndication script (Embedded .mov).
Not really a solution (The 'Daily' thing leads me to assume that you want your links posted and not just displayed in the sidebar, right?), but it's an alternative.

Deli.cio.us has a thing called linkrolls which does what I think you want to do.

Alvy, dhruva: - yes, the linkroll feature and the feeddigest script are really good for sidebars containing current latest links.

But it's daily automated blog postings I'm after - because then they'll get saved along with my manual blog postings. Anybody get the del.icio.us daily postings feature to work with Blogger yet?

Okay, judging by this del.icio.us thingy HOWTO for Wordpress, you want the appropriate XML-RPC server as out_url, not your actual blog's URL.

Funny, though, they suggest in the comments it should be your blog's URL. Try plugging in either http://plant.blogger.com/api/RPC2 or https://www.blogger.com/atom/

Let us know if you figure it out--seems nobody at del.icio.us has gotten 'round to documenting this feature yet.

Thanks for the ideas arto. Those were two urls I hadn't tried yet.

Using http://plant.blogger.com/api/RPC2 returns "metaWeblog.newPost fault was: java.lang.Exception: RPC handler object "metaWeblog" not found and no default handler registered".

I'll try the atom url next.

Using https://www.blogger.com/atom/ returns "posting error was: 500 Can't locate object method "new" via package "LWP::Protocol::https::Socket"".

Any ideas?

I posted a somewhat related question a while back, from which I learned about Tasty Post. I had some trouble initially getting the script set up, so I asked this follow-up question.

In the mean time, I've gotten quite busy and haven't actually gotten the script working for me, but this may be enough to get you on the right track. Hope it helps!

The del.icio.us thingy actually uses the Metaweblog API, not the Blogger API - they're related but not exactly the same - which I think is why you keep getting errors. MW and the Blogger APIs may not play nice enough together that you'll be able to get the del.icio.us thingy to work as is.
I tried the same thing with the same error, but now it's coming back with this:

results:Running at Wed Jan 4 00:28:00 2006 GMT
Fetched 0 items.

So I'm guessing maybe they got it working on their end and it's throwing that because I didn't post any links to del.icio.us yesterday. Maybe. I'll throw up some links today and see if they get posted.

Arto: Yes, that's the message I get too if there are no links to post. It definitely looks like the problem's when the del.icio.us code is sent to Blogger.

Joshua: Thanks! It looks like you've had a good go at this - your description of your experiences have happily warned me off trying to implement Perl on my own Windows box.

I've found that you can pick up your del.icio.us RSS feed using feedburner.com and then mail daily updates to your blog using feedblitz.com. But unless you pay $5 a month, you get your secret Blogger email address plus feedblitz ads posted into your blog.

Looks like we should wait for del.icio.us to fix their thingies.

I'll post a follow up here, as well as in the other thread, when I get Tasty Post working. And I will get it working. I plan on it tomorrow.

I attempted to use an RSS-to-email service (I used RMail, which is free) but was unable to get the formatting to work correctly with for my LiveJournal (the anchor tags got converted to URLS in brackets after the linked text). This may or may not happen for you, so give it a shot - if Blogger doesn't give you that formatting problem, it may be just what you're looking for.

I sent the del.icio.us folks an email. If they send a response, I'll post it in the thread.
