This is doing quite well on the SE side of my house in Northern Virginia. Some are over 6ft/2m tall. What is it?

Best answer: CANADA GOLDENROD. Sorry to shout, but i was just looking that up this morning. It's in my yard too, and about to blow. It's taller than I am and I was getting intimidated by it.

Best answer: Anything that grows that well is likely an invasive weed of some description but according to this website, if it is indeed goldenrod you can at least eat it.

Also apparently good for yeast infections.

Best answer: Yep, goldenrod often gets (unfairly) grouped in with ragweed as a noxious allergen, but it is not. It is a native species that provides food and shelter for a variety of other critters, especially nice for native bees. This clump should look lovely when it blooms in a week or two.

This may well have been a sarcastic comment, but if not it's untrue. Native or endemic plants tend to grow quite well in their home ranges. S. canadensis is native to Virginia.

Response by poster: It's some type of solidago for sure. The flowers are white. Thanks!
