What the heck is going on with my VPN?

VPN doesn't appear to be routing to the country I want it to, why?

Background
1. Using PureVPN
2. I am in the US
3. Selecting L2TP Connection - Fastest United States in VPN app
4. App connects, but...
a) IP address search shows non-US country (Canada)
b) Google search reroutes to non-US page (UAE)

Questions
1. What the heck is going on? How come 3 different locations are appearing (app says US connection, Whats my IP says Canada, Google thinks UAE)?
2. Is this normal for L2TP connections? Should I be using a different type of connection? I use the VPN only while using public wifi
3. Can continue to trust my VPN server? Or is their some setting that I need to tweak? I think if the app says that I am connected to a certain country, it should actually be connected to that country, right? I do not want to have to deal with viewing non-US page results, especially if I am already in the US...

i have never used purevpn, but since no-one else has answered i'll take a stab at this...

my best guess is that it's some weird IP address that has changed hands a couple of times recently, and so lookup databases that go from IP to location are confused.

i don't think it should have anything to do with L2TP. that's just the protocol used. it shouldn't affect the choice of addresses (assuming purevpn isn't doing anything weird).

why not switch to a different usa exit point and see what happens? probably you can find one that works fine.

it doesn't sound to me like a serious issue you need to worry about. geoIP is not that reliable. but if you have a "serious" reason for needing to trust your vpn then you should ask someone more knowledgeable than me.
