Tacos in Santa Monica/Venice Beach

My family is in the car on the freeway, and we're going to spend the afternoon in Santa Monica and Venice Beach. This is our opportunity on this trip to get tacos for lunch; where should we go?

Tacomiendo! They have two locations on the west side - neither are really close to the beach but both are super delicious!

Santa Monica and Venice are not the taco center of LA. I'd probably go for Taqueria Chihuahua or La Playita.

If you're up for something fancier, Mercado has great carnitas. Lotería grill has good versions of a lot of regional mexican dishes--people assume it's just a tourist trap b/c it's on the promenade, but I've had solid meals.

I know. But it's where we are today, and all the rest of our meals on this trip are already accounted for with non-taco obligations.

Whatever you do, don't go to Tito's.

La Cabana at Rose & Lincoln. Been around forever, family owned for 50 years, handmade fresh tortillas.

Response by poster: We ended up going to Tacomiendo, since we were essentially driving right by it. My whole family was satisfied, which is never guaranteed. The fish tacos one cousin and I had were delicious. My dad put ketchup on his carne asada. My mom was delighted by the fresh fruit. My other cousin declared her quesadilla the best she's ever had. Thanks!
