Name these dogs.

Can you help name these beautiful creatures?

My parents are adopting these siblings. Harley (on the left with the brown eyes) is male, Tilly (on the right with the golden eyes) is female. They're sweet, perceptive, and full of energy, and they love each other to death. Tilly is a little more mellow; Harley's more rambunctious.

It seems daunting to give completely new names to a pair of four-year-old dogs, so my mother is reluctant to rename them. However, their current names are a kind of motorcycle and a mall clothing store, respectively, and I think they deserve something a bit more timeless. Can you suggest some names that sound like "Harley" and "Tilly" to ease the transition?

Ha, I was also going to say Marley and Lily, but wasn't Marley a dog in a movie about how sad it is when he dies?

Millie is cute too. Charlie and Millie?

FWIW, I rescued my dog when she was five. She had no problem understanding a new name. But I second Charlie and Millie.

I don't mean to be a grump, I swear: but do your parents want to rename the doggies? It sounds from your post like you MIGHT be the only one who thinks of specific commercial associations with these existing perfectly cute names. If so, please consider not having an opinion.

On first sight they look like "Worried and Sly" to me, which will be better nicknames than Gerald Durrell's "Widdle and Puke" -- so yay.

As to real names, Wolfgang and Margarete.

Personally, I wouldn't rename them (existing names are perfectly fine, in my opinion!), but instead I'd come up with darling nicknames and use those more often. Pets are used to multiple names/endearments and will learn to answer to them all. Time and natural process will reveal the nicknamesā€¦. :)

Congrats to your parents on their lovely pups!

Meh, I renamed my five year old rescue guy and he ignored it just as much as the old one. Barley and Ghillie!

Kawasaki and Abercrombie?

I wouldn't change Tilly's name; it sounds classic and classy to me. Harley's not a name I would choose myself (and I associate it with the DC character, not the motorcycle brand), but I'm not sure I'd be compelled to change it. But I think he'd be a great Charlie.

Other potential names of varying sound-alikeness: Harvey, Marty, Barkley, Darby; Jilly, Nelly, Willow?

I wouldn't rename them either. They're adult dogs, they're used to their names. The names are not what I'd pick but not awful.

Do they respond to their names? My pup was seven when I got him and he did not respond to his (ridiculous) shelter name. He adapted quickly to my new name for him. Treats. Simple as that.

I'd call them Jackie and Wilson after the Hozier song (which of course references the singer).
