Flower ID

What is this flower? It's been identified as a yellow lupine, but my better half doubts it and wants a second opinion. Since I don't know any group of people more opinionated that Mefites, here we are.

Best answer: That's a Kniphofia, a/k/a torch lily or red hot poker plant.

Lupine have very different leaves, so I think amnesia is correct.

Looks like red hot poker to me too, no way is that a lupine.

Definitely Kniphofia, though most tend to be a much brighter orange-red. This may just be an orange varietal.

Yes Kniphofia. Home Depot sells them in my area. They are, apparently, irresistible to squirrels, who chew through the flower stalk and carry the flower away for some nefarious squirrel purpose.
