Hello; I bought a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector. I need headphones for this. Can I use just ear buds for this? Any tips about headphones for this? Stereo, mono, adapter etc? The manual says this: Bounty Hunter Stereo Headphones Use with Bounty Hunter metal detectors. Lightweight and adjustable with true stereo sound, adjustable volume, 1/8 jack with 1/4 adaptor, 4’ cable. HEAD-W Thanks everybody.

Best answer: Most metal detectors use a standard 1/4" jack. In my experience, you won't need audiophile quality phones for a detector. Either you hear the beep or you don't, there's no extra information to be gained from the nuances of the sound. I recommend a cheap pair of cans. You can wear one on the ear and one off so you're still able to stay aware of your surroundings. Good hunting!

There is no harm in using earbuds, but you may have a better time hearing results with a full ear/can style headphone. A quick price check on Amazon shows the Bounty Hunter Stereo Headphones run less than $35, so they seem to be pretty typical. As cosmicbandito said, either you'll hear the beep or you won't hear the beep, so if ear buds work for you, great.

Caveat: I haven't used a metal detector since I was a teen in the early 1980's.
