An earworm old enough to drink

So there's a song that's been stuck in my head since about 1991, when I heard Alison Krauss (And Union Station) perform it. I heard her sing it a couple of times in that period, and never again. I'd love to know who wrote it, and if it's ever been recorded anywhere. I've tried googling the lyrics, to no avail. I'm not sure it matters, but I think they stopped playing this song around the time that Alison Brown left the band.

The bits that I remember are:

"The sign on the cafe window said 'closed please try again'/If only you'd been wearing that sign on your heart, I wouldn't have tried to come in."

and:

"I might as well try to turn back the tide as to try to win your love."

That's all I can remember, and it's been stuck in my head for a quarter century now. Please help me find the rest!

Best answer: I don't see that version, but it looks like it's called Wishing Well Blues.
