itunes installation problems

Quicktime / itunes installation problems:

Quicktime (itunes)just stopped working a few months ago and I have finally got around to try to reinstall it, but everytime I try to reinstall it I get error code: -3

Where do I find out what this error code means so I can fix this problem?

I am on a Dell box with windows xp.

uninstall quicktime only, then install standalone quicktime player @ http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html.

see what happens.
