Best way to make purchases using Bitcoin?

What is the recommended wallet and exchange to make small bitcoin purchases?

I want to make some small purchases using Bitcoin. There seems to be a multitude of wallets, exchanges, etc.

Is there a consensus wallet, exchange, etc to use to make Bitcoin purchases? I would like to pay for the bitcoins securely using a credit card. What is the best way to do this securely?

So in general, a wallet just stores your bitcoin. Which wallet you use doesn't matter, as when you pay out, you withdraw bitcoin out of your wallet and send a code to the recipient.
There's a great list of bitcoin wallets at bitcoin.org.

There are sites where you can buy bitcoin online, but the one I used is now out of business. There's a FAQ on reddit /r/Bbitcoin that seems to cover the basics, and has a list of ways to buy bitcoin.
