Getaway weekend with dogs starting in Maryland

We have until May 4 to take a 4 day weekend getaway. We live in MD and are thinking about heading South to warmer weather. We want to take out 2 dogs. They are well trained. We like places to swim with our boys. We enjoy a hike of not more than 6-8 miles. We enjoy walking places and eating at dog friendly out door cafes. Bonus points if there are doggy spas or gyms. Dog lovers please tell me about your city and why we should visit? I know about bring fido.com, but want first hand experience.

Knoxville and the Smoky Mountains are a great place to get away with dogs, but there are some important details you should know about.

Dogs are not welcome on the trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Don't fret, though! There are many hundreds (maybe thousands) of miles of trails in Wilderness areas and on TVA land (East Lakeshore Trail System, Norris Area Trails) that not only welcome dogs, but welcome off-leash dogs. Most of these trails have water access to lakes, rivers or creeks.

Every restaurant with a patio that I know of in Knoxville welcomes dogs; Market Square is very dog-friendly and a great place to relax, eat, drink and people-watch. The doggy gym I hang out at is Hush Puppy's, which also has a self-serve dog wash and a part-time groomer on staff. Petsafe Village offers a dog park with some agility equipment, day care, spa services and boarding.

PM me if you have any specific questions; I have two highly social dogs and we're always out and about.
