Close-up filming set-up

I'm looking for a camera that will film close-up and work with a monitor.

(Asking for MS. Jabo) I film instruction videos and I need a new set up that is easier to operate. The videos are looking down at my hands while I demonstrate jewelry making. I sit at a desk and use a microphone boom to hold the camera over my head and pointed down at the board that I work on. You can see what it looks like here.

The camera needs to film high quality video and sound (a mic input would be nice). I would also like to use my laptop as a monitor and to start and stop filming.

A smaller camera is better as it won't bounce around as much as a large one. I'm interested in Go Pro cameras but wanted to see what other suggestions folks may have.

Finally, I need a good lighting set-up that won't take up much space and is easy to put up and take down.

What sort of budget are you working with?

Here's a PhotoRec Toby video on how he shoots his video. All the gear he's using is relatively inexpensive. If you get a Canon camera, you can buy the same camera he did in 2013 used or refurbished. There's no real reason to buy a new camera, especially if you're on a budget. Here's a quick lighting video. Again, not exactly what she would be doing, but it'll get you going in the right direction.

Dave Dugdale also does informative and friendly videos on camera, video and lighting.

One thing to watch out for is when you're pointing a camera straight down, the lens zoom can creep (zoom in with gravity). Research the lens you buy to make sure it's not subject to this issue.
