How can I get my blackberry curve 9310 to stop auto deleting my texts?

The phone automatically deletes messages over 30 days old and it's driving me nuts.
I've tried for almost an hour to search online for the answer to this, but there are forums where 50 people are answering the question and no one answers... or they answer but they seem to be talking about another model because when I try to follow the directions, the menu options they list are not listed on mine. I believe I have the blackberry curve 9310.
If I can't keep texts on my phone I would at least like them to be emailed or sent automatically to a place where they won't be deleted.
