How do I install Windows OS8 on a second internal hard drive?

I have an HP MediaSmart server on which I want to install Windows 8. It's a headless server so Google tells me the best way to get OS8 on there is to put a second hard drive in my desktop, install OS8 on that and then just swap the drive into the HP. I'm having problems getting OS8 onto the second drive though.
I have an OS 8 key and downloaded the OS from MS. However, when I installed it, it never gave me the option to install it on second drive and ended up wiping the C drive in my desktop. Luckily, I was able to recover that but I'm back to square one.
Do I need to make a bootable version of OS 8 and if so, will it then allow me to choose where to install it? And how do I make a bootable version of the OS? I downloaded a program called Rufus to do this but it requires the OS be an ISO and it's not. It's just a bunch of files in a folder.

Response by poster: Thanks but If I unplug C drive I won't be able to start the computer unless I make OS8 files bootable. Bad I can't figure out how to do that.

Best answer: One of the options during install from NOT the c drive is a custom install, the menu right after you agree to terms and conditions. You can choose any location or partition. Im not sure this is available from the downloaded versions but if this is a legally obtained copy you download the iso right from ms .

According to these 2 sources, if you have an Win 8 license key you can download Win 8 again and create an ISO file. Source 1, Source 2.
