How can I make my mattress more comfortable?

I bought a firm-support memory foam mattress online and two weeks later it's still stiff as a brick.

I had bought this exact mattress some seven years prior and was satisfied with it but I guess this batch came out too firm. I can't send it back as it's been opened. Can you recommend a mattress topper that might help? I sleep comfortably enough on it but it just doesn't feel nice plopping on to a plank when I go to bed. My room is cool but not an ice-box, so I don't think that's it.

Best answer: Buy a 1" to 2" latex topper. Latex is generally softer than memory foam, and they make latex toppers in various densities. I have a memory foam bed and latex topper. My topper needs to get flipped and rotated about once per month, but as long as I do that, the foam recovers its buoyancy and stays comfortable. I've been doing this for going on four years now. Works great.

Best answer: My wife was getting soreness in her hips from our mattress, and I got one of these, and it helped. I didn't know about the latex toppers or I might have gotten one of those instead.

Best answer: When I bought my Tempurpedic, the salesperson told me to walk on it, "like you're walking on a plowed field." I did this, walking back and forth, up and down, for 20 minutes or so, then I'd repeated it the next night. It broke up the hardness and I've slept on it comfortably for five years.
Hope this will work for you.

Best answer: Make sure you didn't put it upside down. Someone on here said that they hated their high-end mattress until they realized that the installers put it in upside down. Once it was the right way up, it was wonderful.
