Affirmative, Enthusiastic, Mutual Consent: The Play List
March 9, 2016 4:12 PM   Subscribe

This song line has been on my mind: Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir? In English, it means "Would you like to (go) to bed with me this evening?" It occurs to me it represents an unusual paradigm: Enthusiastic, affirmative mutual consent. It doesn't merely ask "will you agree to this?" It asks "do you desire it?" Looking for more like this.

Another song line on my mind: "Moonlight feels right." I am also open to movie scenes or other media that depict a couple achieving that expression of not merely acquiescing or failing to say "no," but actually ascertaining that both parties want this. It is mutually desired and agreed upon.

Links to song lyrics or videos of any kind will be automatically best answered. I have played this game before and there is just not enough time in the day to check out all answers for qualitative "best answer" status in a timely fashion.

Thanks!

Best answer: Toploader's cover of "Dancing in the Moonlight" came to mind when I read this-- it doesn't explicitly express this, but the entire upbeat feel of the song and the use of "we" in the lyrics give me this impression.

Best answer: Not exactly what you want, but kinda close: Lily Allen's Not Fair. "It's really not OK. You're supposed to care that you never make me scream, but all you do is take."

Best answer: Oh hey, PWEI's Satellite Ecstatica also fits the bill. "Her mischief is stirring, she's purring like a pussycat." And, uh, it goes on from there.

Best answer: You should comb through the responses to this previous question, also about songs that involve consent. No doubt some of them are more enthusiastic than others, but I thought of it because the FotC song showed up there too.

Late in that thread, I think the Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam /Full Force song "I Wonder If I Take You Home" might be near or on the money. That was nubianinthedesert's contribution to the last thread, but I bring it here in pursuit of that beautiful green checkmark. :)

Best answer: All in Your Hands

You waited so long and so patiently for me to be
Sure I could trust the light in your eyes that shined
Now it's all in your hands and it feels so beautiful
Now you can lay them on me as much as you like

Best answer: I thought this was such a cool query! I decided to go searching on lists of "top 50/100/whatever/sexy songs" and realized, to my pleased surprise, that there are really a lot of hit songs that have been positive on consent, or at least been a very clear offered invitation, which is kind of a cool thing to realize when you're constantly trying to oppose the idea that "asking isn't sexy." Well, some of the greatest sexy songs of the 20th century were totally about asking and inviting, not pushing and presuming:

Marvin Gaye, Let's Get it On
Bad Company, Feel Like Makin' Love
Donna Summer, Dim All the Lights ("I want yo be your woman/If you'll be my man")
Donna Summer, Love to Love You Baby
Slow Hand, Pointer Sisters Maybe debatable - "don't say a word" - but also a good model of clear communication about sexual preferences
Captain and Tenille, Do That to Me One More TIme

Seems like this is the tip of the iceberg. The 70s were good at this!

Best answer: Kate Bush's The Sensual World has "yes" as the most commonly-used word; she originally used passages from the last chapter of Ulysses for the lyrics until the Joyce estate said no, so she futzed it.

But it's still sexy as hell - I mean, if you can make Irish bagpipes sound exotic, you're doing something right.

Until you're open and grab my hand

Until you like to live that fast
