Question: Help me Locate a Lost Bracelet, PLEASE.

My fiancee lost a (sentimentally) valuable bracelet in Manhattan on Saturday night. What could I do to help locate it? It's silver with interlocking hearts -- one larger gold heart. It may have been lost on the N train or the 6 train uptown or downtown or in the area between 63rd and York and 59th and Lex. I'll do anything to get -that- bracelet back.. any ideas?

On a train? It's gone.

I mean, there's about a 1% chance that someone turned it into the train station attendants, so you could call the train company, but dude.

Post signs, post on craigslist, and in the end, realize that it's almost certainly gone.

Sorry.

The MTA Lost and Found number is 212-712-4500. You could call and see if someone found it.

I hate to agree with agregoli... but I do. Sorry :-(
I found a bracelet once on the subway. At the time I was dating a Russian woman, so I asked her if she wanted it. As soon as I told her that I'd found it, she recoiled I horror and thrust it back into my hands.

I asked what was wrong and she explained that Russians are superstitious about wearing items that belong to someone else, especially jewelry. They believe that once someone wears a piece of jewelry, part of them becomes entwined with that item and for another person to wear is somehow harmful. It might be a karma thing.

This is similar to the taboo in Russia to never pick up money found on the street since they believe you will become poor as a result.

Put up fliers advertising a sizable reward in the trains and in large stations (this is probably illegal and they will most likely be torn down) - you could put an anon email for any takers. If you don't have a picture of it, this could lead to a lot of false drops unfortunately.

But yeah, it's gone.
We are?

Anyway, I think reward flyers are your best, if very small, chance.

Have you tried Lost & Found? I got a pair of glasses back this way once.

As soon as I told her that I'd found it, she recoiled I horror and thrust it back into my hands.

As for Russian superstitions...I'd recoil in horror that you were giving me jewellery without making any attempt to give it to Lost & Found. :)
