It's not suicide. Private Malone stored the car before he went off to war. He never came back. The car got sold.

As this question's been answered, and I, too, am intrigued by the lyric, let me go off topic: How would you describe David Ball's music, or at least his sound on Amigo?

I was referring to the poster on suicide, not the song. If my son were to give me a gift about "I'm probably dead if you're reading this" I'd immediately think he was committing suicide or something similar, regardless of what the song was about.
