Where is the powdered tomato soup?

Does anyone know of grocery stores around New York that carry Tomato Powder and/or Knorr Chicken Tomato Bouillon Powder or equivalent items.

Here are Amazon links to Tomato Powder and Knorr Tomato Bouillon Powder [Note: WalMart is about half the Amazon price. I haven't tried either one, though]

The Bouillon is still spottily available but seems to be disappearing--the Essex Market on the lower east side had none today, and only a few of the equivalent cubes. The Goya equivalent (super-expensive tear-open packets) were in reasonable supply.

One site is still selling Lipton Tomato Cup-Soup powder, but notes that it is no longer being produced.

I have never seen tomato powder for sale in a store. If you know of one, please tell.

I would also appreciate any what's-going-on-here information.

Um, you might check Hispanic food stores? It's common in both the smaller Mexican mercados and mainstream chain groceries here in the Northwest. Also, it might be that you're looking in the standard soup or spice aisles of the standard grocery store - try the whatever-they-call-the-multicultural aisle?

Best answer: Some Whole Foods locations carry Kallø bouillon cubes. You can order Kallø tomato and herb bouillon cubes through Amazon (here's a link to a six pack of boxes, although you can also order single boxes). They're delicious. I first saw them in grocery stores in the UK and brought a bunch home with me. They mix well with the french onion bouillon cubes from the same company.

No idea what's going on, other than dehydrated soups and soup ingredients--which are hugely popular outside the U.S.--are not fashionable in the U.S. these days.

Response by poster: Knorr "Where to buy" indicates a single Walmart 10 miles away for Chcken-Tomato bouillon. I simply do not believe it, though I guess a Walmart near a town with a major spanish population (Dover, NJ) may carry more than some Goya canned beans. . Many spanish groceries nearer me still have the bouillon in jars--but the stock does not appear to be being replenished.

The nearest Whole Foods did not have Kallo bouillon--amid many shelves of wet bouillon containers, there was a single shelf of various vegetable bouillon cubes, and one of chicken bouillon. Not even the beef or chicken bouillon cubes (Herb-Ox) that any damn supermarket has in abundance. Google also turned up Jumbo brand, made in Cote DIvoire (by Nestle), but available in Britain. Not the USA.

I finally picked up some "Sazon Goya con Cilantro y Tomate" to see if it was usable. The flavor is quite tomatoey and good, but (as a sauce additive, not meant to be eaten alone) it is far too salty. But it should be, as it claims "Ideal para Frijoles, Arroces, Sopas, Carnes, Pollo, y Guisos." (What's Spanish for 'Oxford comma", asked Tom paranthetically). But it is not a decent instant soup.

Why do I care? I lost a lot of weight, and part of that was done by replacing snacks with very-low-calorie snacks. Powdered soup makes up a large part of that. I really like tomato soup (yeah, Campbell's was a childhood favorite. With saltine crackers.) and would like to approximate it. I have mostly used various asian miso and seaweed packets (which are very tasty and less than US$0.50 serving) and vietnamese cubes (many flavors, Bo Kho (beef stew) my favorite 'cause it's pretty hot) (Bo Kho Chay [=vegetarian beef stew] is great too, though the name may have broken google translate) but they are all at least okay, and very varied. Yay asian supermarkets!

And ranting on--there used to be 15 flavors of Dannon yogurt. Now there are the same five flavors of six different brands. I loved pear yogurt. Sob. Is this consumer choice? Do I have first world problems?
