"Squeek," I say," SQUEEK!!!"

Why are all my shoes so squeeky? Do you have squeeky shoes? What causes this? How do I get it to stop?!

Found this but no one addressed the squeek issue. This question seemed specific to one area of the shoe on one set of shoes only (plus my shoes are totally paid for, I promise). I have boots, sandals and regular athletic shoes both newer and older (like over a year old) and most of them are squeeky. Mr. Westridge says it sounds like I'm walking on dolphins. This must stop! Can anyone offer any advice to silence the sea creatures on my feet?

are they squeaky no matter what you walk on (carpet, wood, concrete, linoleum, tarmac) or only on certain surfaces ?

My shoes do this when I wear toenail polish. The shoe squeaks when it rubs against the sheen of the polish.

In my case the squeak came from the insoles: a custom orthotic and an off the shelf insole.

For the orthotics which squeaked for me on every step I learned how to fix this from an orthotics fitter. He used a grinder to roughen up the bottom of the orthotics, and told me to use sandpaper to roughen them up more if that didn't quite fix it.

For the new pair of insoles which squeaked I was able fix them by roughening the bottoms with 180 grit sandpaper on all of the smooth areas.

Put talcum powder under the insole. Preferably actual talcum powder, not cornstarch.

This could just be me, but I find that when I wear cotton socks my shoes squeak. It's not the shoe itself, it's from the foot squeaking against the inside of the shoe. I've found that if I wear wool socks I don't have any squeaking.

Response by poster: To clarify, squeaky on all surfaces, but particularly shiny ones like concrete or rile. Still squeaky on carpet but it sounds sort of... muffled I guess.

My manager has this problem and seems to think it is because of her socks/tights rubbing the insole, do they all have a shiny insole or does it happen even with fabric ones?
