Please help me find this obscure comedic anime I watched ~7 years ago. It's definitely not Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, but extremely similar in terms of comedy and characters. (Spoilers inside)

Here's what I remember: It's about a teacher of a class of elementary students, mainly girls. The teacher gets sent to jail in a humorous way. The students take it upon themselves to rescue him. When they arrive at the jail, they kill the guards using manga books and cellphones to liberate the teacher. It's definitely an anime, not a manga.

Hanamaru kindergarten? It fits some of your description, it's a comedy, aired about 6 years ago, and it features a teacher and female kindergarten students. I can't remember the specific scene that you've described though, it's been a few years since I've watched this series.

Best answer: Yes, this goes against the letter of your question, but the specific scene you describe is detail-for-detail a scene from the first episode of Zan Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei - perhaps you checked against the first season, but missed the third season?

Response by poster: OMG. I was asking this for my brother. I showed him this thread and it turns out it was Zan Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei. He had missed the special season that nobody watches. He's been thinking about this for many years, so he's thrilled to have an answer. Thank you and sorry for the misleading question :s
