Why won't my wife's iPhone 6 ring when she gets a "hangout" voice call

My wife has an iPhone 6 running 8.1.1 When she receives a hangout request, her phone will do one small vibrate and show a banner, but it will not ring. If she's not paying attention, she doesn't realize she's being called.

I've checked the phone settings, notifications are turned on for hangouts (sounds, badge, show on lock screen).

In the hangout app settings "snooze notifications" is not turned on. in-app sounds IS turned on, in-app vibrate is turned on, video call ring is turned on.

Obviously the account is set up correctly, I can call her, she can answer, just no damn ring...

How can we get hangouts to ring her phone as part of the notification of a call?

Response by poster: ouch... solved....

My wife now knows to check the button on the side of her phone to make sure that sound isn't turned off...

I now know to ask the stupid questions first..

Thanks folks, all I had to do was post the question, you didn't even need to respond....

In reference to the switch on the side of the phone being turned off: the Lifeproof case I have on my iPhone turns off this switch every time I put it on. Since I don't take the case off and on all that frequently, I forget in the intervals. Perhaps she experienced the same issue. When you're putting the case on, it is not at all obvious that the switch is getting turned off and when the case is on, you can't tell what position the switch is in.
