How to Spend a Sober New Year's Eve in NYC

I need help figuring out how to spend New Year's Eve. Not only am I a single 41 year old in NYC, there are some other "fun" complications that make this challenging.

in addition to be 41, I quit drinking this year, which means I can't do my traditional wander into a bar and hang out. My friends being in their 40s are either not celebrating except quietly at home or are going away for a little sunshine.

In addition, I'm disabled so just keep in mind there are some physical limitations. I can't stand for anything longer than 5 minutes without being in pain, can't walk very far and have difficulty with stairs. So any volunteer activities that would involve standing for long periods, walking, etc are also out.

So what then to do? I want to celebrate. I even went on meetup to see if any groups were doing new year's eve activities. The only one is going to a bar.

Response by poster: I should add I don't go to AA for a variety of reasons, so please don't suggest it.

Congrats on your sobriety.

We have a Jammie Jam. We play board games, eat noms and watch Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper. It's real Melvin and it's exactly the right thing for us. Perhaps invite a couple of friends over for pizza and watching cheesy New Year shows.

If you're in a 12 step program ask there to see if you can tag along to something., or offer your pizza party.

I used to think New Year's Eve had to be a production. Now, I'm very happy to chill in my Jammie's with my best buds.

Happy New Year!

Response by poster: If that was an option, it would be great. I've done it before, but unfortunately this year I do have any friends up for it because they are either way or staying at their own places.

Not to belabor the obvious, but have you googled "sober new years"? I get some religious results, but if that's not your thing, this article gives a few suggestions and the writer is also nyc-based:

You could go to the midnight screening of The Shining at Nitehawk

Central Park fireworks, if you don't mind crowds. They are amazing and it's not going to be that cold. Or the Nitehawk.

Response by poster: So my plan is I'm going to order some nice stuff from fresh direct-have myself a little food par-tay with expensive sparkling water and then go to Laughing Lotus for a two hour yoga class and then home to try out some of the lovely lavender bath products I got for christmas. As always, I knew I could count on you all. Thanks.

Response by poster: Of course hours after I post this, I find this via facebook. If you're into meditation Kadampa is beautiful. I've already committed to yoga though.
