I am not good with Kindle

I got a Kindle as a Christmas gift, but I can't seem to upload photos and videos to Youtube and Instagram. Before I return this, is there a way I can make these work?

I can say much about YouTube but did you install the Instagram app? Once you've logged into your account uploading photos is done by clicking the camera "button" at the bottom of the screen. Then select "gallery".

Response by poster: There doesn't seem to be an Instagram app for the Kindle Fire HD6. I found Instafire, but it only lets me browse photos. I can't upload photos from Instafire.

I think it would be a android app you need. Do you have a Google Play account? Browse the "Play Store" for the app. Tried browsing my mom's tablet and it looks like the app is designed for phones so the dimensions of the design may be a bit wonky. But on first glance it looks fine to me.

I assume the same case applies for YouTube. Search the Play Store.

I should mention I'm browsing a Nexus Tablet. I do recall that although a Fire runs on android there are some restrictions on what kind of apps it can run because Amazon wants to shuttle you through their ecosystem. If you can't see the Play Store I am going to venture that this restriction is in place (so stupid). If returning it is an option, check out a nexus or Samsung tablet which will be about the same price and you will be able to install these apps easily.

It looks like you'll need to sideload both instagram and YouTube for them to work on your Kindle. Sideloading is when you use a file installer and install an app directly on your device, rather than through an app store like Google Play or the Amazon app store.

Here's a tutorial on how to install YouTube. Hopefully for the right type of Kindle.

I have a Kindle Fire 6 HD and I have gotten the instagram app to work easily. Sideloading google apps aren't as easy, I've gotten gmail to work but not YouTube. Not to say it can't be done, just that I haven't managed it.

I disagree that the Nexus and Samsung tablets are similarly priced (for the same hardware). The Fire line is very attractively priced, because it is a loss leader designed to suck you in to the rest of the Amazon ecosystem. Getting other Amazon competitors on it is designed to be a huge struggle and will continue to be a huge struggle through every system update and application update and everything else. If you're already deep in the Amazon system (use Amazon video for everything, etc.) it might be worth it, but otherwise I recommend returning it for a tablet which is more expensive up front but less of a pain in the butt in the long run. (A Nexus, basically.) (Also buy some Amazon stock, because I'm sure they suck a lot of people in with the Kindle Fire price.)
