Got new camera, have a question.

I just purchased a new Sony DSC-RX100IV, I love it, I am finding it fairly complicated to figure out but it's gradually revealing its treasures. The feature I want however, and this seems so simple, is to be able to leave the camera on a shelf and have it snap a pic every x amount of time. Is this not a thing?

Best answer: I can't watch it at work, but here's a youtube video that seems like it might answer your question.

Best answer: Something like this should work.

Response by poster: Huck500: I saw that, was trying not to pay extra (just on principal, come on Sony!) for a feature that I wasn't sure would do what I wanted, he doesn't say in the video if the individual shots remain on the camera after it has used them to create the lapse video or not.

Guess I have to bite the bullet and give them $10 more.

Perhaps updating the firmware will allow for new features; it did with my Fuji.

Best answer: Yeah, I'm... I guess disappointed more than surprised that Sony would go to the app store model for actual functions on their cameras... functions they probably developed on the camera platform, tested, then removed from the final product so they could charge you another $10.

From the sony app store:

You can choose to save the still images as a series of photos instead of a movie.

I know you said you're passing on the hardware solution, but for future readers of the thread(or if you go that route)... I'd be wary of buying something designed to work with the MK3 for the MK4 without it explicitly stating it's compatible. Sony is utterly legendary at needlessly breaking or changing things like this. Like, i bet the official sony remote shutter changed from the Remote Deedlybob TR-103 to the TR-108 with one button being a different color and completely different signaling.

I mean, i might be wrong, but camera companies and especially sony are legendary for that. I'd do some intense googling before i bought it.

PlayMemories camera app has a TimeLapse app for $10. It works VERY well. Completely configurable. You'll have to setup a Sony account and go to the App store in the camera menu. It's the same as the PS4 network I believe.

Here's a video I made with it

EDIT: Somehow didn't see this had been answered. Sorry!
