Name suggestions please, for this dog with cowlike qualities

This sweet rescue was found wandering the streets of downtown L.A. He is 1.5 years old and moves slowly, and sometimes falls asleep while sitting upright.
He is shy and exudes "cow-like" vibes, according to owner (I'm posting on their behalf). They are having a hard time deciding on a name (in the running: Conan, Waiwai, Cowboy), so I offered to consult the internet for them.
Thanks Mefi!

Ferdinand seems to be the obvious answer. Marguerite if you don't care about Gender.
'Round here most of the cows are of the Montbeliard type, so I might go with Monty.

I think his name is Molasses.
Moolasses, rather (or more accurate, moo-lad).
If he's interested in plants, like cows, call him Theophrastus

"Clarus" or "Dogcow", after Apple's famous Clarus the Dogcow.
Also "Moof" (the sound a dogcow makes) would be another option.

He looks like he's got some red heeler in there, also called an Australian Cattle Dog (cow-dogs). The convention is to give them Aussie-related names, something like Jack (for jackaroo), Foster (Australian for medicore beer), and Boomer (for boomerang).

Came to suggest Banjo, but got beaten to the punch. Named after a famous Australian poet who wrote a lot of poems about the Australian equivalent of cowboys, stockmen.
With the Cattle seemed appropriate as it's about taking starving cows & saving them by herding them to greener pastures & coming home.

humboldt32: "Moo-se."
Huh. Before even looking at the comments, I thought "Moose" (although without the "moo" pun even though it was right there). He just has a Moose-y quality, I think.

This is very nerdy and obscure, but you could go with Clarus, the "dogcow" that used to appear on the Mac print dialog years ago.

Can you wait a few weeks to name him if you want a name that captures his personality? I say that only because his shyness is probably a result of the trauma he's undergone rather than his permanent personality. You won't know for a few weeks what he's really like.

The woman's name "Leah" supposedly comes from "Littu", Akkadian for "cow", with the cuneiform character being "𒀖" - if you have a cuneiform font installed that actually looks like a cow's head.
The term "cow" used for a person didn't originally have the connotation it does today, but was rather complementary back when everyone was recently descended from nomadic pastoralists. See this Akkadian prayer, The Exaltation of Inanna, wherein a priestess refers to a goddess as "My driven, divine, wild cow!"

True. In the US it seems to mean "fat ugly woman" and is very offensive, whereas in the UK it has a much more nuanced meaning, sort of grumpy or even just vaguely unfortunate woman, E.G. "the poor cow missed her bus and had to walk home".
