Is there a good kids book about Edvard Munch and "The Scream"?

My second grade daughter has just been learning about Edvard Munch and "The Scream" - Are there any good kids books that discuss the artist and work?

She knows the painting was inspired by real events and would like to learn more about Munch and his art. Any good books available? She's a strong reader but might not handle a mature discussion of the horrors of war all that well - she is pretty sensitive to scary things and powerful emotions. A good book with other artist profiles would be great, it doesn't have to be all Munch.

Response by poster: Huh - now that I've done some more research I've apparently gotten some expressionists mixed up. I don't know if she would deal with discussions of existential angst any more than war, but you know, let me know what you've got…

Phaidon makes beautiful art books, and their The Art Book for Kids looks promising. When I was her age, I really enjoyed non-fiction from Usborne and DK. They both have several books on art for kids.

If she's interested in art more generally, she might enjoy Anthony Browne's books. The illustrations in several are inspired by modern art and she might enjoy spotting visual allusions to familiar paintings (with gorillas instead of human figures). Linnea in Monet's Garden is a beautiful story about a little girl who travels to Giverny to visit the home of her favourite artist and see the garden he painted. It combines a lot of information about the artist with a terrific story. I can't recommend it enough. There are also several really interesting looking books about artists listed here.

Edvard Munch (Art Profiles for Kids) looks like a possibility.

Not sure of there's an English edition of this available yet. This graphic novel is probably a little too advanced. (A couple of "Scream" art projects here, here and here.) It's fun in parody, too.
