Gym annual fee after cancellation

I cancelled my gym membership effective today, and I have signed proof. However, they claimed that I will owe them an annual fee tomorrow October 1. Can I dispute this with a chargeback? I told them I was not paying it, and they said it had already been arranged. My contract says the annual fee is charged October 1.

Last time I had this issue they claimed that I had to give x days notice before renewal. Check the language in the contract.

This is such a common scam. YES. Chargeback.

I don't even think you bank or credit card company will blink when you phone to dispute the charges. Just make sure to provide them with a copy of your termination agreement.

Done and done.

This old question may be helpful for you.

Does your contract say anything about a minimum number of day's notice you have to give? Mine is 30 days. If it doesn't specify, then yes, I think a chargeback.

In my experience, the cancellation was for the second month following the month during with I cancelled. The only way to know what applies to you is to read every word of the contract. If the contract does specify the payment, then it's up to you whether to pay.

Nthing to check your contract. Whether you owe this amount depends on when you terminated, and how much notice your contract requires.
