Can you help me find a song title to some lyrics?

What song are these lyrics from: "I like it when it rains" and "Sideways on my window pane"? Unfortunately that's all I've got. Anyone have any ideas? I, thinking I had some amazing internet skills told my girlfriend I could figure it out to no avail. So now I leave my dignity to you, fellow Ask Mefiers. Please, save my geek cred.

Male or female vocals? If male, you might be hearing Grand Funk Railroad; if female, perhaps Madonna?

Note: the lyrics don't match exactly.

Wasn't that song (whatever it is) featured on The X-Files once? The one where the demonic human man wants to have a normal baby with a normal human woman?

I second Tina Turner... maybe you just are remembering the lyrics a little askew?

"I can't stand the rain, against my window
Bringing back, sweet memories
I can't stand the rain, against my window
Cause he ain't here with me"

Servo5678: I remember that episode and the song that played was Garbage's "Only Happy when It Rains"...

Tina Turner's I Can't Stand the Rain was also sampled in Missy Elliott's The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).

Lowell George recorded "I Can't Stand the Rain" in 1979, five years before Tina Turner. I wonder who recorded it before him.

Addicted to the rain (from google, so I don't know how well known the song is)

wsg, "I Can't Stand the Rain" was recorded by:

Ann Peebles in 1974. (She co-composed the tune as well)
Graham Central Station and Ron Wood in 1975.
Albert King in 1977.
And Eruption in 1978.

For reasons I can't understand, people are replying with random songs about rain, or songs with "rain" and "window" in the lyrics. Or "I Can't Stand the Rain"- yes, we all know that song, probably from "The Commitments", but that doesn't mean it's the song being asked for.

I'm assuming your girlfriend did not mis-remember, and I can say that some searching shows that the blues man Ronnie Earl has an actual album called "I Like It When It Rains", and there is a title track of the same name. Sadly, I can't find the full lyrics anywhere, which is odd... but this may be the song she is thinking of since the title matches part of the lyric you are looking for, exactly. If I can dig up the full lyrics, or a link to a song sample, I'll post it here. Seems like a good possible match; you might ask your girlfriend more about what the song sounded like, blues/rock/female/male, etc.

Eruption had a disco hit with it in 1978/9, and Ann Peebles had what I think was the original hit with it in 1974.

Um, probably not it, but...

Don't you hate it when people ask a question, and then don't monitor the answers? Argh! Enquiring minds want to know, which song was it?

Amy Carr's "3rd Line" has the bit about "sideways on the windowpane," with slight variation.

I'm assuming the song should be about LIKING the rain (obviously), not about being unable to stand it (by any number of people), or thinking its strange (Elton John), or praying that it should stop (Grand Funk Railroad)...

So far, I'd say that hicandenza's suggestion of "I like it when it rains" by Ronnie Earl is the closest to the given description BY FAR.

I have this sinking suspicion it's probably that Garbage song, though...

I was first to suggest the Garbage song, and I'm sticking to it!

Response by poster: Thanks for all the answer. Sorry i didn't monitor the answers last night, I was out. Here's the update: It's a male singer. It's a recent song (she thinks). It's not Missy Elliot or Tina Turner.

Ronnie Earl looks like it's got the best shot, but she can't seem to find the MP3. Anyone have a link to the MP3 or at least a snippet?

There's a snippet (and a full download for 99 cents) here, but the snippet didn't have words, only instrumentals. BTW, I had to use Internet Explorer to get the page to load--Firefox didn't work for some reason.

The Ronnie Earl song isn't the one you're looking for. I just listened to it on Yahoo Music Unlimited and it's instrumental only. Has a really nice, bluesy sound, though.

Response by poster: Oh no, no lyrics. No wonder all my searches came up with nothing. So the mystery continues . . .

Best answer: Well folks, yesterday I received this email:

Hi Noah,
My name is Jonathan and I was looking for that same song you wanted lyrics to back in early December and posted on MetaFilter and I found it. The artists name is Mad Larry and the song is titled Window Pane. I was looking for the lyrics myself when I stumbled on your request for them. I don't have an account with MetaFilter but I thought you may want to know about it. I can't find a full list of the lyrics but "I like it when it rains. Sideways on the window panes" is in that song word for word. It's not in the short clip but the music it is the same song. Here is the site where I found the song:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00092ZLM6/qid=1136931608/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3743026-0789731?n=507846&s=music&v=glance

If you scroll down and go to the listen to samples section you can listen to clips of it, its song #14 on the Fever Pitch soundtrack. I hope you found this useful.
