Question: Cold weather womens shoes for sight-seeing

Calling fellow london mefites: suggestions on relatively inexpensive womens shoes or boots to withstand all day sightseeing in London`s December weather. Also bonus points on where to buy them (she will be staying in Kensington).

My wife has no footware for the London climate. Here in Mexico city we have exhausted all possible stores for warm footware.

You want to buy the shoes in the UK right? not Mexico.

If the UK: I'd suggest Clarks. As for price I'd guess about GB 40-65, but they'd be very comfortable, durable and surprisingly stylish for a brand that often is associated with old gits like myself. Perhaps she should check out the ankle boots which will keep some of the rain/snow/slush out too.

As far as I remember there's not a Clarks in Kensington (there maybe, but I can't think), but there are plenty around.

Off the top of my head the easiest branch to find, for a visitor, may well be the one on Oxford St. It's not too far from Selfridges, 200 metres or so, and on the same side of the road.

I'm hoping the shop is where I imagine it to be as I'm writing this - there's a Clarks somewhere within walking distance of Seldridges I'm sure, but if my memory is misleading just ask someone in one of the other shops for a pointer.

Oxford St is an easy tube journey from Kensington, 15minutes on a good day. Ideally you want to get out the tube at Marble Arch and follow the crowd past Selfridges towards the other shops.

Disclaimer: I don't work or own shares in Clarks... honest, but I do buy a lot of my shoes there.

hmmm... just to confuse myself I decided to look at www.clarks.co.uk and use the store locator... according to them there's not a shop on Oxford St and there's only 9 branches in the whole of London, which must be rubbish.

But they say there is a branch within Selfridges. The web site sucks, so I'm torn between trusting it or my dodgy memory... sorry.

Clarks are definitely the best, but if you want something a tiny bit cheaper, my ALDO sneakers were fantastic for a week in cold, rainy London last year. You'll find an ALDO on basically every street corner in the city (they probably also sell water proofing spray, if you're concerned about that).
