Let's Split

Where can I get the best possible banana split in Reno, NV?

Every year I exit Burning Man on Wednesday in order to pick up a bunch of campmates from the airport in Reno. Last year it occurred to me that what I wanted most in the entire world during my brief return to civilization was a banana split. For the life of me, I could not find one. I tried a couple of different casinos, and they were of no use. Someone at one casino eventually directed me to Johnny Rocket's, which she promised me could make a banana split, even though it wasn't on the menu. This turned out not to be even a little bit true, and I ended up having to settle for a banana shake.

This year, I want to head into Reno with a PLAN. I want a banana split, and I want it to be the best thing that I've eaten in my entire fucking life. I feel that, with the hivemind's help, I can make this happen.

Where should I go?

I know it's not fancy, but I feel like you can't go wrong with Baskin-Robbins, since you have your choice of so many ice cream flavors. If you like a soft-serve type split, there's also Dairy Queens and Sonics in Reno.

There are some good ice cream options in Reno, but if your heart is set on a banana split, apparently this place made a mean one back in 2012. (I'd double check by calling about whether it is still on the menu. ) The Main Street Deli in Circus Circus offers banana splits as well. And yes, there is DQ.

Also, there is the Ben & Jerry's at 1495 Prater Way in Sparks (very close to Reno), which serves banana splits. So does the Cold Stone Creamery in Sparks.

There is Cold Stone Creamery in Reno on Plumb Lane not far from the airport, about a five-minute drive.

Unfortunately, Reno doesn't currently have too many great ice cream options and the Swenson's in town closed a few months back. That being said, if you're looking for non-chain places, while I can't speak to their quality of banana split I would expect the following places to have quality offerings based on their other food I've had : Great Full Gardens; South Creek Pizza. I haven't been before, but it looks like Cafe Milano at the Peppermill casino has a banana split that gets brought up in Yelp reviews often enough.
