Boots like these, but better!

I'm looking for a better quality pair of boots to replace these Steve Madden ones I bought a few years ago. I really like the style of these boots, with the little crochet detailing, and they're quite "light," but they're wearing out and it's time for me to find something new.

However, aside from those qualities they're not the best. So if a you can recommend a boot with the following qualities I would very much appreciate it!!
  • Warmth - The Steve Madden boots are not very warm at all and I need a pair that is warm enough to still be reasonably comfortable in -40C weather.
  • Grooves/Grips on the sole - This probably is a no brainer for a pair of boots, but my Steve Madden boots have FLAT soles. As you can imagine, this can be problematic where it gets icy. So the soles cannot be smooth.
  • Black - Maybe with a bit of detailing to make them special
I'm also not a fan of boots over jeans (just a personal thing, it looks great on other people but me? nah), so I'll be putting my jeans over the boots and because of this I'm really not looking for a pair of big hulking boots.

You should look at Sorel. Note: a lot of those come in black.

Best answer: The Steven Madden boots appear to be "paddock" style boots. I have these boots by Ariat, they are very comfortable and very nice quality. I highly recommend these boots.

These Bogs Chukkas were recommended by Juliet Banana here, and I love them very much. They are extremely waterproof, so I think they would be warm. I also wear my jeans over my boots, and they work well for that.

I really love born boots. There are a few styles in there that might fit your criteria.

These Kodiak Acadias have been amazing in Canadian winters -- I've worn them in both frigid Edmonton and wet Vancouver walking my dog. Warm and totally waterproof!

If you're willing to shell out for Fryes, they have a few similar styles minus the detailing. I am really really hard on my shoes and they're the only ones besides my clunky Doc Martens that I haven't run into the ground.
